Work on Brinton Park project now underway

A £3 million project to improve Kidderminster’s Brinton Park is now underway.

The project, which is funded by £2.4 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and £460,000 from Wyre Forest District Council’s Evergreen Fund, will enhance facilities, protect local wildlife, and celebrate the park’s rich heritage.

The Sons of Rest Pavilion is a key part of the project. Due to serious structural problems, the building will need to be demolished and rebuilt.

The new building will reflect the historic character of the original pavilion while offering improved community facilities including a new café space, terrace, ornamental pond and landscaping.

Work has now started on the construction of an artificial badger sett, which will relocate badgers already living in the park, a factor that has caused delays to the project. This will allow work on the Sons of Rest Pavilion to begin in the Summer.

Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety said,

“It is great to see that work is already underway at Brinton Park. This first stage is vital work which needs to be completed to both protect local wildlife and allow us to move ahead with the main improvements in the park.”
